Tulips3rd International Bhikkhuni Day (IBD)
Saturday, September 21st, 2013

Once a year, we pay respects to the Bhikkhuni Sangha and acknowledge its essential role in preserving the dhamma. We remember prominent bhikkhunis and their unique achievements. We also honor all of our women teachers, including our mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and sisters. In the past we have honored Mahapajapati, the Buddha’s stepmother who raised him, and Sanghamitta, who brought the bhikkhuni order to Sri Lanka, where it then spread to Asia and other parts of the world.

We are currently looking for suggestions on which bhikkhuni or prominent Buddhist woman we might honor this year. This year we would be launching a New IBD Ambassador Volunteer for a day project. Keep checking our site and social media. Please e-mail your suggestions, and a couple lines about the person, to info@bhikkhuni.net.

Plan to meditate, celebrate and contemplate with us!
Become a part of the expanding circle of alliance supporting bhikkhunis.
Join in a day of giving and receiving, of listening and sharing. We are also looking for volunteers to help coordinate the event, as well as people who can organize local events with their sangha or meditation group. Please contact: info@bhikkhuni.net

We have set Saturday, Sept. 21st, 2013 as the date for the 3rd International Bhikkhuni Day. However, any date around that time, is fine for celebrating. We choose that time as it is the Full Moon and the time that Mahapajapati, the first bhikkhuni, was ordained.

As the date approaches, downloads, talks, Power Point presentations and other tools and suggestions to create an informative as well as transformative local retreat will be posted on our website. Downloads and Tools that were created for the First and Second Annual International Bhikkhuni Day are still available.

Two of Alliance for Bhikkhuni’s main goals are to raise funds in order to support fully ordained Theravada Buddhist women (bhikkhunis), as well as to educate the public about the renaissance of the Buddhist female monastics.

We are very grateful for the generous donations of our supporters which allow us to accomplish these goals. The Annual Report and Annual letter gives you an overview of how we distributed those donations. We express our sincere appreciation to everyone who offered dana in money or in volunteer time to support these projects!
